Tropiquaria is a zoo and animal sanctuary based on a 1933 BBC Transmitting Station.
The heat for the Tropical Hall comes from the BBC Wales Transmitters, making Tropiquaria unique in the Zoo world.
Daily events include:
11:00 – Bird Feeding
11:30 – Gibbon Talk
12:00 – Animal Encounters
1:30 – Otter Feeding
2:00 – Animal Encounters
2:45 – Meerkat Feeding
3:00 – Animal Encounters
3:15 – Lemur Talk
Unlike many larger Zoos; Tropiquaria occasionally takes in rescue animals. These animals may have been seized entering the country illegally, taken from owners on welfare grounds, or simply found after being abandoned. Whilst these animals are usually not of any conservation significance; they still receive the same care.
In the basement of the Tropical Hall in crypt-like surroundings, there is an aquarium with a collection of fish from around the world. Some of the tanks have been converted to house smaller African rodents and reptiles, and invertebrates such as Tarantulas and Giant Millipedes.
Let your kids run wild in the play area! You’ll find two life-sized outdoor pirate ships to play on!
